How it works

  1. 1~30s

Alright, let's get started! Complete this activity while being with your baby and another familiar person. Ask your baby to call the other person by his or her name. you, watch your child closely — I'd love to hear what you notice about how they responds.

Watch for: Baby try to copy the words you say.

  2. 2~30s

Great, now let's try the next part. Andy what's her name can you say Anna? Praise the efforts your baby makes and thank her for trying. Tell me what your child does — any reaction counts!

Watch for: Baby refer to caregivers as 'mama' or 'papa.'.

  3. 3~30s

One more thing to try. Continue practicing this every day until your baby is able to do it and eventually does it naturally. During this exercise observe if your baby recognizes a familiar person and attempts to talk to him or her. Andy what's her name can you say Anna? How does your child handle this? What do you see?

Watch for: Baby imitate a sound like 'pa' after you say it.
