What you'll need

You'll need a bowl with ice, a bowl with warm water. This helps teach your baby to discriminate between hot and cold.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Alright, let's get started! To complete this activity, you will need a bowl with ice and a bowl with warm water. To begin, let your baby put her hand in the bowl containing the ice. you, watch your child closely — I'd love to hear what you notice about how they responds.

Watch for: Baby show different reactions to hot and cold things.

  2. 2~30s

Great, now let's try the next part. And while she touches it, repeat the word cold. Next, do the same with the bowl containing the warm water. Tell me what your child does — any reaction counts!

Watch for: Baby like soft things more than rough ones.

  3. 3~30s

One more thing to try. During this activity, observe if your baby has a different reaction to the ice and the warm water. Does she prefer one to the other? How does your child handle this? What do you see?

Watch for: Baby like some textures more than others.
