What you'll need

Kitchen workspace cleared and safe. Ingredients and equipment gathered: eggs, cheese, milk, optional veggies, muffin tin, mixing bowl, whisk, measuring cups/spoons. Oven preheated if baking immediately. Child should be able to reach workspace safely.

How it works

  1. 1~40s

Start by talking through the recipe steps with your child. Say something like 'First we crack eggs, then we add cheese, then we pour into the muffin tin.' Ask your child to repeat the steps back to you or tell you what comes next. Watch how they handles this planning — does they remember the order? Can they anticipate what comes after cracking eggs?

Watch for: Child can follow and recall a sequence of 3-4 steps in cooking preparation.

  2. 2~45s

Now let's measure the ingredients together. Give your child the measuring cup and say 'We need half a cup of cheese.' Watch how they approaches this — does they fill it to the line? Does they understand concepts like 'half' or 'quarter'? You can also practice counting eggs together. Notice their number sense and measurement understanding.

Watch for: Child demonstrates understanding of measurement concepts by filling cups to appropriate lines and counting items accurately.

  3. 3~35s

As you work together, notice how your child handles kitchen safety. Does they remember to wash hands? Does they understand hot surfaces? When you handle the oven or stove, explain why we're careful. Watch if your child shows awareness of safety rules — like not touching sharp knives or hot pans without asking.

Watch for: Child demonstrates awareness of basic kitchen safety rules and practices.
