Exploring the Environment
Parent carries baby in a forward-facing position and walks around the home, narrating objects and rooms. The agent guides the parent to observe baby's visual attention, interest in novel stimuli, and excitement responses, building cognitive curiosity and environmental awareness.

What you'll need
Baby held facing outward in parent's arms, alert and calm. Parent should be ready to walk through different rooms of the home. Activity works best when baby is well-rested and curious.
How it works
- 1~35s
Start walking slowly through the room you're in. Watch your child's eyes and head — what catches their attention? Maybe a painting on the wall, a window with light streaming in, or the family pet. When your child looks at something, point to it and name it: 'Look, your child, that's the clock!' Does they seem to focus on particular things? Tell me what's grabbing their attention.
Watch for: Baby scans the environment with focused visual attention, fixating on specific objects.
- 2~30s
Now walk to a different room — maybe the kitchen or a room your child doesn't spend much time in. Watch for a change in your child's behavior when the scene shifts. Does they get more alert? Look around more actively? Maybe wave their arms with excitement? The response to novelty tells us a lot about cognitive development. What do you notice when you enter the new room?
Watch for: Baby shows heightened interest and alertness when entering a new environment.
- 3~40s
For this last part, stay in the new room and do a slow narrated tour. Point to three or four objects and name them clearly: 'This is the fridge. It's big and white. And this is a plant. It's green and soft.' After naming each one, pause and watch your child. Does they look at the object you're pointing at? Does they seem to follow your pointing hand? Any arm-shaking excitement? Tell me how your child responds to your narration.
Watch for: Baby follows parent's pointing or gaze direction to look at named objects in the environment.
