Crawling Under the Tunnel
Parent creates a 'tunnel' with their legs or furniture for baby to crawl through, observing how baby navigates the space and responds to the challenge. The agent coaches the parent to notice spatial problem-solving, motor planning, and social engagement during this playful obstacle course.

What you'll need
Clear floor space with soft surface (carpet, mat, or blanket). Parent seated on floor. Baby should be in a playful, mobile mood — able to crawl confidently. No materials needed.
How it works
- 1~30s
Let's start simple. Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out in a V shape. This creates a little tunnel between your legs. Hold a favorite toy on the other side and say, 'your child, come through the tunnel!' Watch how they approaches. Does your child crawl straight through the space between your legs? Or does they go around your legs instead? Tell me what you notice.
Watch for: Baby assesses the space between parent's legs and plans a crawling path through it.
- 2~35s
Now let's make it more challenging. Create a longer tunnel by sitting with your legs straight and together — like a narrow bridge. Or use two chairs placed close together to make a furniture tunnel. Say, 'Can you crawl under the bridge?' Watch how your child handles the tighter space. Does they need to duck their head lower? Does they slow down or speed up? Tell me about their movement.
Watch for: Baby adjusts body position to fit through a confined space while crawling.
- 3~40s
For our last challenge, create a tunnel with a slight problem — maybe place a soft pillow partway through, or sit so your legs are at an angle. Say, 'Oh no, there's something in the way!' Watch how your child responds. Does they try to move the obstacle? Go around it? Look to you for help? Or show determination to push through? Tell me about their problem-solving approach.
Watch for: Baby encounters a minor obstacle in the tunnel and shows problem-solving behavior.
