What you'll need

Toddler lying on changing station or mat, calm and alert. Have a clean diaper within reach. Best done during a routine diaper change when toddler is cooperative.

How it works

  1. 1~25s

Start by showing your child the clean diaper. Hold it up and say, 'Look, your child! A new diaper!' Then, with a big smile, place it right on top of your head. Make a surprised face and ask in a silly voice, 'Where did the diaper go?' Watch your child's reaction — does they look at your head? Does they seem to understand it's hidden there?

Watch for: Toddler shows understanding that the diaper still exists even when hidden, by looking toward or searching for it.

  2. 2~30s

Now ask again, 'Can you find the diaper? Where is it?' This time, watch your child's hands. Does they point to your head? Or maybe they reaches toward it? Pointing is how toddlers communicate 'I see it!' before they have all the words. If your child doesn't point, you can gently prompt by pointing to your own head and saying, 'Is it here?'

Watch for: Toddler points to the hidden diaper to show they've found it or to communicate its location.

  3. 3~35s

Let's play one more round! This time, try hiding the diaper somewhere else — maybe on your shoulder or behind your back. Watch how your child engages with the game. Does they laugh or smile? Does they stay interested in the search? This simple game turns a routine moment into joyful connection.

Watch for: Toddler shows positive engagement and enjoyment during a care routine turned into play.
