Soothing with Soft Textures
Parent uses a soft blanket or plush toy to gently brush baby's body while describing textures in a calm voice, observing baby's relaxation response and sensory preferences. The agent coaches the parent to notice tactile soothing, self-regulation cues, and early sensory processing during bedtime preparation.

What you'll need
Baby held comfortably in parent's arms in a dimly lit room. Soft blanket or plush toy within reach. Best done at the end of bedtime routine when baby is calm but not yet asleep.
How it works
- 1~30s
Take your soft blanket or toy and gently brush it against your child's belly. Use slow, rhythmic strokes and describe the texture in a calm, soothing voice — you might say 'So soft... so gentle...' Watch your child's face and body closely. Does they seem to relax into the touch? You might see their breathing slow, eyelids get heavy, or muscles soften. Tell me what you notice.
Watch for: Baby shows signs of relaxation and calming in response to gentle tactile stimulation.
- 2~35s
Now gently move the soft texture to your child's arms and legs. Use the same slow, gentle strokes and continue your calm descriptions. Notice if your child responds differently to different body areas. Does they seem to prefer certain spots? Does they pull away from any areas or lean into others? This helps us understand their early sensory preferences.
Watch for: Baby shows differentiated responses to soft touch on different body parts, indicating developing sensory preferences.
- 3~30s
If your child is enjoying the sensation, gently brush the soft texture against their cheeks and nose — these are especially sensitive areas. Use the lightest touch here. As you do this, watch for signs of drowsiness — yawning, fluttering eyelids, that heavy-limbed look. When you see those signs, it's time to gently transition your child to the crib while maintaining that calm, soothing energy.
Watch for: Baby shows readiness for sleep transition through drowsy cues during soothing routine.
