My Little Book Worm
Parent reads a simple board book with baby, using animated voices, pointing to pictures, and encouraging interaction. The agent coaches the parent to observe joint attention, pointing responses, and early book-handling skills — building language development through engaging shared reading.

What you'll need
Baby seated comfortably on parent's lap or beside parent. Have a simple board book with clear, colorful pictures. Environment should be calm and free from major distractions. Best done when baby is alert but not overly active.
How it works
- 1~30s
Start by showing your child the cover of the book. Point to the main picture and say, 'Look, your child! A dog!' Use an excited voice. Then open to the first page. Instead of reading all the words, just point to one picture and name it: 'Ball!' Watch your child's eyes. Does they look at the picture you're pointing to? Does they look back at your face as if checking in with you? That shared focus is called joint attention — and it's the foundation of all learning.
Watch for: Baby looks back and forth between parent's face and the book picture, showing shared attention.
- 2~35s
Now turn to a page with a familiar object — maybe a ball, a cup, or an animal. Point to it clearly with your index finger and say, 'Where's the ball? Can you touch it?' Give your child a moment. Does they reach out toward the picture? Does they point with their own finger or touch the picture with their whole hand? Even a reach toward the book shows they understands that pictures represent real things.
Watch for: Baby reaches toward or points to a picture in the book when asked.
- 3~40s
For our last page, let your child take the lead. Hold the book steady but let them turn the page if they tries. Does your child grab the page? Try to turn it? Pat the book? Some babies even try to 'read' by babbling at the pictures. Watch how your child interacts with the book as an object. Does they seem to understand it's something to explore, not just look at?
Watch for: Baby attempts to turn pages, pat pictures, or handle the book actively.
