What you'll need

Child lying on back on a soft surface, alert and calm. Have a small feather ready. Child's shoes and socks removed. Best done when child is in a playful, curious mood.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by placing the feather gently between your child's toes. Then slowly bring their foot up toward their face and lightly tickle their nose with the feather. Watch your child's face closely — does they smile, giggle, or make a surprised expression? Some children love this sensation, while others might be more cautious. Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Child shows a clear positive or negative reaction to the feather's soft touch, indicating developing sensory preferences.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's focus on your child's facial expressions. As you tickle their nose again, watch for specific reactions — does they scrunch their nose, rub it, sneeze, or make a funny face? Describe the sensation to them: 'Does that tickle? It feels soft and feathery!' See if your child tries to mimic your facial expressions or words.

Watch for: Child shows differentiated facial reactions to sensory stimulation, indicating sensory processing and body awareness.

  3. 3~40s

For our last part, encourage your child to take the feather and try tickling their own nose. You might need to help guide their hand at first. Watch how they moves — does your child bring the feather toward their face with control? Does they understand the cause and effect — that their movement creates the tickle sensation?

Watch for: Child attempts controlled movement to bring feather to own face, showing body awareness and motor planning.
