Lavender Massage for Sleep

Parent gives baby a gentle massage with lavender-infused oil as part of the bedtime routine, observing how baby responds to the calming touch and scent. The agent coaches the parent to notice relaxation cues, sensory regulation, and bedtime readiness — building positive sleep associations and bonding.

What you'll need

Baby lying on back on a soft surface in a dim, quiet room. Have lavender-infused oil ready (2 drops lavender oil mixed with 2 tablespoons carrier oil). Best done after bath as part of bedtime routine. Baby can be in pajamas or just a diaper.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by warming the lavender oil in your palms. Gently place your hands on your child's chest and make slow, circular strokes outward toward their shoulders. Watch their face and body closely — does your child seem to relax with the first touch? You might see their breathing slow, their eyelids get heavy, or their muscles soften. Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Baby shows visible relaxation in response to gentle, rhythmic touch during massage.

  2. 2~40s

Now move to your child's arms and legs — long, gentle strokes from shoulders to wrists and thighs to ankles. As you massage, notice if your child responds to the lavender scent. Does they breathe more deeply? Does their body seem to settle further? The combination of touch and calming aroma can help regulate their sensory system before sleep. What do you observe?

Watch for: Baby shows regulated sensory responses (calm breathing, relaxed muscles) during bedtime massage routine.

  3. 3~30s

For the final part, gently turn your child onto their tummy and massage their back with slow, downward strokes. As you finish, notice their overall state. Does your child seem ready to transition to sleep? Is they making sleepy cues — yawning, rubbing eyes, quieting down? This massage helps create a clear 'bridge' between awake time and sleep time. What bedtime readiness signs do you see?

Watch for: Baby shows signs of bedtime readiness and smooth transition to sleep routine.
