My Bedtime Story

Parent recounts the day's events in a gentle, narrative voice during bedtime routine, helping child develop language memory and reinforcing the parent-child bond through shared storytelling. The agent coaches the parent to observe attention span, verbal responses, and emotional connection during this intimate ritual.

What you'll need

Parent holding child in arms or sitting close together in a quiet, dimly lit room. Best done as part of bedtime routine when child is calm but not yet asleep. No materials needed.

How it works

  1. 1~45s

Start by softly telling your child about the beginning of your day. 'Today we woke up and had breakfast together...' Describe simple, concrete events — what you ate, what you wore, where you went. Keep your voice gentle and rhythmic. Watch your child's face — is they listening? Does they maintain eye contact or relax into your voice? Tell me what you notice about their attention.

Watch for: Child maintains attention to parent's narrative for extended period during calm activity.

  2. 2~40s

Now recall a special highlight from today — maybe a visit to the park, a new word your child said, or a funny moment. Describe it with feeling: 'And then at the park, you went down the slide all by yourself!' Watch for any reaction. Does your child smile, make a sound, or show recognition? Even a slight change in expression can indicate they remembers or connects with what you're describing.

Watch for: Child shows recognition or response when parent mentions familiar events from recent past.

  3. 3~30s

Now gently transition to bedtime. 'And now it's time to sleep, so we can have energy for tomorrow's adventures.' Use a soothing, predictable closing. Notice how your child responds to this transition. Does they relax further, make a contented sound, or verbalize something like 'night-night'? This shows they understands the routine and the emotional safety of your voice.

Watch for: Child makes verbal sounds or attempts words in response to parent's narrative.
