The Helping Game — Working Together

Parent and child complete a household task together while the agent guides a discussion about why we help others. The agent observes the child's cooperation quality, willingness to participate, ability to share tasks, and language around helping. This activity bridges prosocial understanding with real-world practice.

What you'll need

Parent should choose a simple household task that the child can meaningfully participate in. Good options: setting the table, sorting laundry by color, putting toys away by category, watering plants. Avoid tasks that are too complex or where the child would mostly watch.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Great choice! Okay, before you start, let's figure out how to split the work. your child, what part of this job do you want to do? And what part will your parent do? Talk it out together and let me know your plan.

Watch for: Child participates in dividing up the task and negotiating roles

  2. 2~30s

Okay, go ahead and start your job together! Parent, while you're working, tell me what you're noticing — is your child sticking with their part? Are you helping each other? I'll listen in while you work.

Watch for: Child works alongside parent, coordinating actions and staying on task

  3. 3~30s

Nice work, team! Now I have a question for your child. your child, why do you think it's important to help out at home? Why do people help each other? Tell me what you think.

Watch for: Child articulates reasons for helping others

  4. 4~30s

Last question for both of you! What was the best part about doing this job together? Parent, you go first, and then your child can share too.

Watch for: Child expresses positive feelings about cooperative work
