Preschool Ready
Parent observes five readiness milestones: seating independently on a child-sized chair, one-leg standing with support, four-to-five word sentences, turn-taking in games, and one-hand cup use. Covers five physical, language, and social milestones at 36-48mo.

What you'll need
A child-sized chair if available. A simple game (simple card matching, roll-and-move). An open cup with a little water.
How it works
- 1~60s
Two physical tests. First: ask your child to sit down on a small chair — a preschool chair or low stool. Does your child get on and sit stably without help? Second: ask your child to stand on one foot while you lightly hold one hand — 'Can you lift one foot while I hold your hand?' How long can your child hold it? Tell me both.
Watch for: Child seats themselves on a child-sized chair
- 2~90s
Two more tests. First: have a conversation with your child — ask about something they loves. Listen for sentence length: are most sentences 4-5 words long? Like 'I want to go outside' or 'The dog ran really fast.' Note the typical sentence length. Second: play a simple game that involves taking turns — even just rolling a ball back and forth or a simple card flip. Does your child wait for their turn and let you have yours? Tell me both.
Watch for: Child speaks in sentences of four to five words
- 3~30s
Last test: offer your child a cup with a small amount of water. Say nothing about how to hold it. Does your child pick it up and drink with one hand? Or does they use two? Watch without commenting. Tell me.
Watch for: Child uses a cup with one hand
