Look at Me!
Parent observes joint attention, proto-communication, and early language comprehension: whether the child repeats actions to get attention, points to wanted objects, points to share interest, follows body-part commands with visual cues, and understands three-word phrases. Covers five social-communication milestones at 9-17mo.

What you'll need
Normal environment — at home during play or after a meal. No special materials needed, but have one toy visible nearby for the wanting-pointing test.
How it works
- 1~120s
In the next 2 minutes, watch for this: does your child repeat a sound, bang, or action specifically to get your attention — not just randomly, but with clear intent to draw your gaze? Maybe banging a surface, making a sound and then looking at you, or doing something they knows gets a reaction. Tell me if and what you notice.
Watch for: Child repeats sounds or actions to get people's attention
- 2~60s
Two pointing tests. First: put a toy or desired object just out of reach and don't give it right away. Does your child point toward it to ask for it? Then: point to something in the room yourself — a window, a picture, something interesting — and say 'Look!' Does your child follow your point? Does your child point at things they finds interesting to share it with you — not just to ask, but to show? Tell me what you observe.
Watch for: Child points to an object they want
- 3~30s
Two language tests. First: say 'your child, wave your hand!' while waving your hand yourself — does your child copy the action? Now say the same command without any hand gesture — just words. Does your child respond without the visual model? Then try a three-word phrase in context: 'Look, the dog!' or 'Give me [toy name]!' or 'Where is Mama?' Does your child respond appropriately? Tell me both.
Watch for: Child moves a body part when asked, supported by visual cues
