Shape Hunt — Find Shapes All Around You

A scavenger hunt where the agent names shapes and the child finds real-world objects that match. Progresses from basic shapes (circle, square, triangle) to more complex ones (oval, diamond, rectangle). Child moves around the house searching, building spatial awareness and shape vocabulary.

What you'll need

No setup needed. Parent and child should be free to move around at least 2-3 rooms of the house. Activity works best when child can physically go and touch objects they find.

How it works

  1. 1~35s

Let's start with an easy one. your child, can you find me something that's shaped like a CIRCLE? A circle is round, with no corners — like a ball or a clock. Go have a look around and bring something back, or point to it and tell me!

Watch for: Child identifies a real-world object that matches the circle shape (plate, clock, lid, wheel, coin, etc.).

  2. 2~40s

Awesome detective work! Now let's find a trickier one. you, can you ask your child to find something shaped like a SQUARE? Here's the tricky part — a square has four sides that are ALL the same length. After they finds a square, see if they can find a RECTANGLE too — four sides, but two long and two short. Tell me what your child comes up with!

Watch for: Child finds objects matching square and rectangle shapes, and demonstrates some awareness of the difference between them.

  3. 3~35s

your child, here's your next shape challenge! Can you find something shaped like a TRIANGLE? A triangle has three sides and three pointy corners. This one might be harder — triangles are sneaky! Have a good look around. Tell me when you've found one!

Watch for: Child identifies a triangle shape in the real world (coat hanger, slice of pizza/sandwich, roof shape, yield sign, etc.).

  4. 4~40s

Last challenge, and this is the expert round! you, let's see if your child can handle two tricky shapes. First: an OVAL — that's like a stretched-out circle, like an egg shape. And if they gets that, try a DIAMOND — that's a square turned on its corner. Go on your hunt and tell me everything you find!

Watch for: Child identifies oval and/or diamond shapes in the environment, demonstrating recognition beyond basic shapes.
