How it works

  1. 1

    First, let's set up. Place 3-5 small household items on the floor and put the basket nearby. Say: 'your child, we have some items that need to go back home in the basket. Can you be our special helper and put them away?'

  2. 2

    Now encourage follow-through. Say: 'Remember, your job is to put ALL the items in the basket. Which one will you do next?'

  3. 3

    After all items are in the basket, say: 'You did it! Your helper job is complete. Now can you carry the basket to where it belongs?'

  4. 4

    For an extra challenge, say: 'What other helper jobs could you do? Maybe tomorrow you could help set spoons at the table or put toys in their box.'
