How it works

  1. 1

First, let's make our shakers! Take an empty container and help your child fill it about one-third full with rice or beans. Then secure the lid tightly. This is our first instrument!

  2. 2

Now let's make a drum! Give your child a paper tube and show them how to tap it with a wooden spoon. Can they make different sounds by tapping the ends and the middle?

  3. 3

Time for our parade! Let's march around the room playing our instruments together. I'll lead with a steady beat: 'March, march, shake-shake-shake!' Can you follow along?

  4. 4

Let's try something special - a 'freeze dance' with our instruments! We'll play our music, and when I say 'FREEZE!' we stop completely. Ready? Start playing... and FREEZE!
