How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by inviting your child to make their first message. Say: 'Let's write a message to someone special! Who would you like to send a message to?'

  2. 2

Now give your child paper and crayons. Say: 'Let's write our message! You can use your crayon to make marks, scribbles, or draw pictures for your message.'

  3. 3

As your child works, say: 'Tell me about your message. What does it say?'

  4. 4

Now say: 'Time to mail our message! Let's put it in our special mailbox.' Show your child how to slide the message through the slot.
