How it works

  1. 1

Let's start with a simple story. Show your child the two toys. Say: 'This toy is going to share the snack with a friend. This other toy is going to take all the snack and not share.' Ask your child: 'Which toy is making a good choice? Why?'

  2. 2

Now let's try another. Use the blanket as a 'bed.' Say: 'One toy is gently putting their friend to sleep with the blanket. The other toy is pulling the blanket away roughly.' Ask: 'Which choice is not good? What should the toy do instead?'

  3. 3

Now let's make it personal. Ask your child: 'If you saw someone feeling sad because they dropped their toy, what would be a good choice to help? What would not be a good choice?'

  4. 4

Let's reinforce with praise. Say to your child: 'You're doing so well! Now, can you tell me one good choice you made today? Why was it good?'
