What you'll need

Find a cozy spot in your child's bedroom or sleep area. Have a favorite book nearby. Make sure any screens (tablets, phones, TVs) are in the room but can be turned off.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's start by saying goodbye to screens for the night. Parent, please invite your child to turn off any tablets, phones, or computers together. You might say, 'Let's help our brains get ready for sleep by turning off the bright lights from screens.'

Watch for: Watch how your child responds to turning off screens. Do they need reminders? Do they show understanding of why this helps sleep?

  2. 2~30s

Now let's make our space cozy for sleep. Parent, invite your child to help create a calm environment. You might say, 'Can you help me dim the lights? Let's get your favorite book and make a comfy nest with pillows and blankets.'

Watch for: Watch how your child participates in preparing the sleep space. Do they take initiative? Do they understand what makes a space feel sleepy?

  3. 3~60s

Time for our special reading wind-down. Parent, snuggle up with your child and your chosen book. You might say, 'Let's read together and let our busy thoughts float away with the story.' Read for a few minutes, noticing how your child settles in.

Watch for: Watch how your child engages with reading as a wind-down activity. Is their body relaxing? Are they following the story?
