What you'll need

Ensure screens (TV, tablets, phones) are nearby to turn off. Have 3-5 age-appropriate books available. Dim the lights if possible.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's begin by saying goodbye to screens for the night. Together with your child, find any screens that are on and gently turn them off. You might say, 'Screens help us play and learn, but now it's time to let our eyes and brain rest.' Watch how your child participates in this transition.

Watch for: Child's response to turning off screens - resistance, acceptance, or initiative

  2. 2~45s

Now let's choose our bedtime story. Place 3-5 books where your child can see them. Encourage them to pick one that feels 'calm' or 'cozy' for bedtime. Notice how they make their choice - rushing or thoughtful?

Watch for: Child's selection process - impulsive vs. deliberate, frustration vs. calm

  3. 3~60s

Before we read, let's help our bodies get ready for sleep. Guide your child through this: 'Squeeze your hands tight for 3 seconds... and release. Feel the relaxation? Now squeeze your shoulders up to your ears... and let them drop. Take a deep breath in... and sigh it out.' Watch how their body responds.

Watch for: Child's participation in progressive muscle relaxation - resistance, attempt, or mastery
