What you'll need

Grab a piece of paper or cardboard. Draw or color four simple squares: one red, one yellow, one green, and one brown. That's your color card. You'll also need a small container like a bowl, basket, or bag.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Great! Show your child the color card. Say, 'We're going to be nature detectives! Our first mission is to find something outside that's the same color as this red square.' Hold up the red section. Give them the container and say, 'Let's go look together!'

Watch for: Watch how the child searches for and selects a red object from nature.

  2. 2~45s

Excellent! Now, point to the yellow square on your card. Say, 'Our next clue is yellow! Can you find something yellow in nature?' If they found red easily, you can add, 'Let's see if we can find both yellow AND green this time.'

Watch for: Watch how the child searches for and discriminates between yellow and potentially green objects.

  3. 3~40s

We have one color left! Point to the brown square. Say, 'Brown can be tricky—it's the color of dirt and tree trunks. Let's find a brown nature treasure.' After they find something, sit down together with your full container. Say, 'Let's look at all the beautiful colors we found!'

Watch for: Watch how the child finds a brown object and then engages in reviewing/describing the full collection.
