What you'll need

Have your child in or ready for the bath. You'll need a child-safe washcloth, mild soap (bar or pump), and a plastic cup or small watering can for rinsing.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Great! Let's start with our washcloth. Hand your child the wet washcloth and a little soap. Say, 'Your mission is to wash your arms, legs, and tummy all by yourself. Can you show me how you scrub each part?'

Watch for: Watch how your child uses the washcloth to scrub different body parts without being told each step.

  2. 2~30s

Now for a shower adventure! This helps them get used to water on their head and face. Take the plastic cup or watering can. Say, 'Time to rinse off! I'll pour the water like a gentle rain shower. Can you tip your head back, close your eyes, and say 'ahh' as the water flows?' Let's try rinsing the soap off together.

Watch for: Watch your child's reaction to water being poured over their head and face for rinsing.

  3. 3~30s

Last mission: expert handwashing! We'll do it right here in the bath. Say, 'Let's wash our hands like doctors do to get ALL the germs. First, rub soap on your palms. Then the backs of your hands. Then scrub between your fingers, and don't forget your thumbs! Let's sing 'Happy Birthday' twice while we scrub.'

Watch for: Watch the steps and motions your child uses when washing their hands with soap.
