How it works

  1. 1

First, let's introduce the instruments. Show your child the wooden spoon and tap it gently on the floor. Say, 'Listen to this sound!' Then invite your child to try. Observe how your child responds to the sound.

  2. 2

Now let's try the shaker. Take a plastic container with rice or pasta inside (make sure the lid is secure!). Shake it gently near your child's ear. Say, 'Shake, shake, shake!' Encourage your child to hold and shake it too. Observe how your child engages with this new sound.

  3. 3

Now let's combine sounds! Tap the spoon on the metal bowl, then shake the shaker. Say, 'Tap-tap, shake-shake!' See if your child can alternate or join in. Observe how your child responds to the combined musical experience.

  4. 4

Let's make it a duet! You tap a simple rhythm on the bowl (like tap-tap-pause), and encourage your child to shake during the pauses. Say, 'My turn... your turn!' Observe how your child participates in this back-and-forth musical play.
