How it works

  1. 1

First, let's explore! Pick up one kitchen item—maybe the wooden spoon. Hold it up and ask your child, 'What do you see? What can we call this?'

  2. 2

Now let's describe it! Ask your child, 'How does it feel? Is it smooth, bumpy, hard, or soft?' Encourage they to touch it and use describing words.

  3. 3

Time for imagination! Hold up the spoon and say, 'What could this be besides a spoon? A magic wand? A dinosaur bone? A microphone?' Encourage your child to pretend and name it something silly.

  4. 4

Let's make a mini-story! Pick another item, like the bowl. Ask your child, 'What if the spoon and bowl were friends? What would they do together?' Help weave a tiny tale using the words you've explored.
