How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by inviting our first friend. Choose a stuffed animal that looks a little sad. Hold it up and say, 'This friend feels sad because they dropped their favorite toy.' Ask your child: 'How can we help our sad friend feel better?'

  2. 2

Now invite a friend who's feeling excited! Hold up another animal and say, 'This friend is so excited because they're going to the park later!' Ask your child: 'How can we celebrate with our excited friend?'

  3. 3

Here's a friend who feels shy. Hold up a third animal and say, 'This friend is feeling shy about joining the tea party.' Ask your child: 'How can we make our shy friend feel welcome?'

  4. 4

Now let's check on everyone. Say, 'Our friends all have different feelings. Which friend would you like to check on first?' After your child chooses, ask: 'What could we ask them to see how they're feeling now?'
