What you'll need

Outdoors near plants or indoors with houseplants. Small watering can or cup. Small trowel or spoon for digging (optional). Clothes that can get dirty.

How it works

  1. 1~25s

Show your child how to water a plant — pour gently at the base. Then give them the watering can. Does your child pour on the plant? On the ground? On themself? Can they direct the water? Say 'The plant is thirsty — let's give it a drink!' Does your child seem to understand that the plant needs water?

Watch for: Child engages in caring for a plant by watering it, showing early ecological caretaking.

  2. 2~25s

If you have access to soil, let your child dig! Give them a small trowel or spoon. How does your child interact with the soil? Does they scoop? Pour? Squeeze? Let them get dirty! Nature names: 'That's soil — it helps plants grow.' Does your child find anything in the soil?

Watch for: Child uses tools to scoop, pour, and manipulate soil, showing practical motor skills.

  3. 3~20s

As you garden together, name things: 'leaf,' 'flower,' 'soil,' 'water,' 'worm,' 'stem.' you, which nature words does your child already know? Can they point to things you name? Does they say any nature words?

Watch for: Child demonstrates nature vocabulary through pointing, saying words, or responding to nature word prompts.
