How it works

  1. 1

First, let's set up our concert space. Place the containers and saucepan on the floor. Give your child the wooden spoons. Say: 'Welcome to our kitchen concert! What song should we sing first?'

  2. 2

Now let's sing the chosen song together. Encourage your child to use the wooden spoons as drumsticks on the containers while singing. Say: 'Let's sing [song name] together! You can tap the beat with your spoons.'

  3. 3

Now let's try a different song with our shakers. If you have rice/pasta in containers, use those. If not, just use the empty containers. Say: 'Let's try 'If You're Happy and You Know It'! Shake your container when we say 'clap your hands'!'

  4. 4

Now let's be creative! Say: 'Let's make up our own song about our kitchen concert! What should we sing about? Our spoons? Our shakers? Our singing?'
