How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by gathering 5 small kitchen items together. You could use spoons, forks, small cups, or napkins. Place them in a row on the counter. Say, 'your child, let's count these together!'

  2. 2

Now let's mix it up! Move the items into a small pile instead of a line. Say, 'Let's count these again, but this time they're all jumbled up!'

  3. 3

Now let's add a challenge! Count out 3 items from the pile and place them in front of your child. Say, 'Can you give me exactly 4 spoons (or whatever item you're using)?'

  4. 4

Let's play a quick game! Close your eyes while your child hides some items under a napkin or bowl. Then say, 'How many are hiding? Let's count what's left to figure it out!'
