How it works

1. 1

   First, let's give your child a spoon and a plastic bowl. Show your child how to tap the bowl gently with the spoon to make a 'tap-tap' sound. Say, 'Tap-tap, tap-tap!' Can you encourage your child to try tapping too?

   Now, let's sing a very simple song with our tapping. To the tune of 'Twinkle Twinkle,' sing slowly: 'Tap-tap, tap-tap, little spoon.' Pause after each line. Can you sing it with your child and see if they joins in with tapping or sounds?

3. 3

   Let's try a call-and-response. Tap your bowl twice and say, 'Can you copy me?' Then wait. See if your child taps back. If they does, try three taps. Can you play this copycat game?

4. 4

   Now, let's finish with a favorite. Sing 'If You're Happy and You Know It' but change it to 'If you're happy and you know it, tap your bowl!' Do the action and see if your child joins in for the tapping part.
