Kitchen Band Sing-Along

How it works

   First, let's gather our kitchen band instruments. Give your child two spoons and a plastic bowl. Show they how to tap the bowl gently with the spoons to make a drum sound. Say, 'Let's make our own drum!'

   Now let's sing together! Choose a simple song your child knows, like 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.' Start singing slowly and clearly. Encourage your child to join in while keeping the drum beat. Say, 'Let's sing and play our drums together!'

   Now let's try solo singing! Say to your child, 'Your turn to be the star! Can you sing the next line by yourself while I play the drum?' Choose a simple line like 'How I wonder what you are.'

4. 4

   Let's experiment with pitch! Say, 'Now let's make our voices go high and low like a slide whistle. Sing 'up up up' going higher each time, then 'down down down' going lower.' Demonstrate first, then invite your child to try.
