How it works

Show your child the jar with the treat inside. Say, 'Look! There's something special in here. But we need to wait until the timer goes beep-beep-beep before we can open it. Can you help me wait?'

Start a simple activity while waiting. Say, 'While we wait, let's sing a song! Can you sing 'Twinkle Twinkle' with me?' Or offer a simple clapping game.

When there's about 30 seconds left, say, 'Listen! The timer is getting ready. Can you hear it almost ready? Let's watch the numbers change together.'

When timer rings, celebrate! Say, 'The timer went beep! You waited so patiently! Now we can open the jar together.' After enjoying treat, ask, 'How did it feel to wait?'
