How it works

  1. 1

First, let's find our first treasure! Look around the room with your child and choose one object to put in our story bag. It could be anything—a toy, a spoon, a cozy sock. When you've picked something, tell me what it is and why you chose it.

  2. 2

Now let's add another treasure to our bag. Find one more object with your child. This time, let's think about how the two objects could go together in a story. For example, if we have a spoon and a teddy bear, maybe the teddy is hungry! Can you tell me how our two treasures might connect?

  3. 3

Let's take out all our treasures now. Look at them together. Now, let's start our story! You begin, you. Say one sentence to start our adventure, like 'Once upon a time, there was a little bear.' Then, ask your child to add what happens next using one of our treasures.

  4. 4

Now let's make our story even bigger! Ask your child to choose one more treasure from the bag and tell you what happens next in the story. Encourage theyr to describe it with a little more detail—like what the object does or how it feels.
