How it works

  1. 1

First, let's start with something simple. Pick up a wooden spoon and tap it gently on the counter. Ask your child to close they eyes and listen carefully. Then ask: 'What did that sound like to you?'

  2. 2

Now let's try a different sound. Take a metal bowl and gently tap it with the wooden spoon. Ask your child: 'How is this sound different from the first one we heard?'

  3. 3

Now let's play a guessing game. Have your child turn around or cover they eyes. Make a sound with one of your kitchen items, then ask: 'Can you guess what I used to make that sound?'

  4. 4

Let's create a sound story. Make three different sounds in sequence (like tap, shake, scrape). Then ask your child: 'What story do these sounds tell? What might be happening?'
