How it works

  1. 1~30s

you, go first! Say 'I'm thankful for...' and name three things — make them specific and varied. Maybe one person, one experience, and one thing. For example: 'I'm thankful for your child's big smile this morning, I'm thankful for the sunshine today, and I'm thankful for our yummy dinner.' Then ask your child: 'What are YOU thankful for?'

Watch for: Child names something they are thankful for, showing gratitude awareness.

  2. 2~20s

Now ask specifically: 'Is there a person you want to say thank you to today? Who was kind to you?' This shifts from things to people — appreciating others is a deeper level of gratitude. Does your child name a person? Can they say why?

Watch for: Child expresses gratitude for a specific person and can explain why.

  3. 3~20s

Last reflection: ask your child: 'How does it feel to think about all these good things?' We want to see if your child can notice the positive feeling that comes with gratitude. Does they seem happier, calmer, or warmer after the exercise?

Watch for: Child shows or describes a positive emotional response to the gratitude practice.
