Pattern Detective — Spot It, Continue It, Create It

A voice-guided game where the parent creates simple repeating patterns with household objects and the child identifies and extends them. The agent walks the family through increasingly complex patterns (AB, ABB, ABC), encouraging the child to explain what comes next and why.

What you'll need

Parent gathers 8-10 small household objects of 2-3 types (e.g., spoons/forks, colored blocks, different coins). Lay them out on a flat surface within child's reach.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Great! Let's start with a simple pattern. Can you line up a pattern like: spoon, fork, spoon, fork — or whatever two items you have? Make a row of four, alternating between the two. Then ask your child, 'What comes next?' I'd love to hear what they says!

Watch for: Child identifies and continues a simple AB repeating pattern

  2. 2~35s

Now let's level up! Can you make a trickier pattern — something like: spoon, fork, fork, spoon, fork, fork? That's an ABB pattern. Lay out six items and then ask your child what the next three would be. And your child, I bet you can crack this one too — can you tell me what comes next?

Watch for: Child identifies and continues an ABB pattern with increased complexity

  3. 3~35s

Okay, here comes the big one! Can you make a pattern with three different objects? Like: spoon, fork, cup, spoon, fork, cup. Lay it out and let's see if your child can continue it. Take your time — this one has more to remember!

Watch for: Child identifies and continues an ABC three-element repeating pattern

  4. 4~40s

Now for the ultimate detective challenge — your child, can you make your OWN pattern for your grown-up to solve? Use any of the objects on the table. Make a pattern, and then see if they can figure out what comes next! your child, tell me what pattern you're going to make!

Watch for: Child creates an original repeating pattern using available objects
