How it works

  1. 1

First, let's explore our instruments. Show your child each kitchen item and demonstrate one sound it can make. For example, tap the bowl with the spoon or shake the container. Then invite your child to try making sounds with each item.

  2. 2

Now let's play 'Follow the Leader.' Choose one instrument and create a simple pattern, like 'tap-tap-pause' or 'shake-shake-shake.' Do the pattern 3 times slowly, then ask your child to copy it with theyr instrument.

  3. 3

Let's add a challenge! Create a 'kitchen band song' with 3 different sounds in sequence (e.g., tap bowl, shake container, tap floor). Repeat the sequence 4 times together. Encourage your child to keep going even if they makes a mistake.

  4. 4

Now let's add a gentle distraction. While playing your kitchen band song, you, hum a simple tune or gently tap your foot. Observe if your child can maintain the rhythm pattern despite this extra sound.
