How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by making a simple pattern with spoons and forks. Place them in a line: spoon, fork, spoon, fork. Ask your child, 'What comes next?'

  2. 2

Now let's make it trickier. Use cups and bowls: cup, cup, bowl, cup, cup, bowl. Ask your child, 'Can you add two more items to keep the pattern going?'

  3. 3

Now let's create a sound pattern. Tap the table: tap, tap, clap, tap, tap, clap. Ask your child to copy it and add the next two sounds.

  4. 4

Finally, let's mix it up. Use three types of items, like spoon, cup, bowl, spoon, cup, bowl. Ask your child, 'What's the pattern rule?'
