How it works

  1. 1

Start by making a simple, playful sound to get your child's attention, like 'Ooooh!' or 'Hi baby!' Wait a few seconds and watch your child's face.

  2. 2

Now, let's take another turn. After your child makes a sound, pause for a moment, then respond with a similar sound. For example, if your child said 'goo', you say 'goo-goo!' in a happy voice.

  3. 3

Let's add some expression. Make a sound with a big, happy facial expression, like a wide-open 'aaaaah!' with a surprised face. Wait and see how your child reacts.

  4. 4

For our last turn, let's try a pause game. Make a sound, then wait a little longer than usual—count to three in your head—before making another. See if your child fills the silence.
