How it works

First, let's get settled. Place your child on their back on the blanket, and position yourself so your faces are about 8-12 inches apart—that's the perfect distance for your child to see you clearly. Give your child a moment to look at you. I'll wait while you get set up.

Now, let's gently encourage more. After you smile back at your child, try making a very soft, happy sound like 'oooh' or 'ahhh' with a big, warm smile on your face. Then pause and watch your child's face again for about 10 seconds.

Let's try one more variation. This time, after you and your child share a smile, slowly turn your head away to the side as if you're looking at something interesting, then pause for just 3-4 seconds before turning back with a big, expectant smile. Watch what your child does when you turn back.
