How it works

  1. 1

Let's start with something simple. Show your child how to gently roll the soft ball back and forth with another child or with you. Say something like 'Watch how we roll the ball!'

  2. 2

Now let's try an imitation moment. After rolling the ball a few times, gently pat the top of the ball with your hand and say 'Pat, pat!' See if your child copies this action.

  3. 3

Let's introduce another child's action if possible, or you can pretend to be another child. Have someone (or you as 'another friend') stack a cup or block, then see if your child tries to stack too.

  4. 4

Let's try a simple social back-and-forth. If you have another child, have them clap hands, then encourage your child to clap too. If alone, you clap and say 'Can you clap like me?'
