How it works

  1. 1

First, let's get your child comfortable. Hold your child in your usual feeding position and make eye contact. Say something like 'Are you my hungry little birdie?' in a playful voice.

  2. 2

Now, bring the bottle or breast slowly into your child's line of sight from about 12 inches away. Move it gently side to side once.

  3. 3

Now, bring the bottle or breast closer to your child's mouth—about 3-4 inches away. Pause for just a second before feeding.

  4. 4

As you begin feeding, use the same phrase each time. Try something like 'Time for yummy milk!' or 'Here's lunch for my hungry birdie!'
