How it works

  1. 1

First, let's get your child's attention. Hold the mirror so they can see both your faces. Make a big, happy smile and say, 'Look, your child! I'm so happy!' Then pause and watch your child's reaction.

  2. 2

Now let's try a surprised expression. Open your eyes wide, raise your eyebrows, and make an 'O' shape with your mouth. Say, 'Oh! Look at that!' in an excited, surprised tone. Watch how your child reacts.

  3. 3

Now let's try a gentle, calm expression. Relax your face into a soft, content look. Make gentle 'shhh' sounds or hum softly. Say, 'So peaceful...' in a calm voice. Observe your child's reaction.

  4. 4

Let's see if your child will initiate an expression! Make a neutral face and wait patiently for about 10 seconds. See if your child tries to get your attention with a facial expression.
