How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by getting cozy. Sit with your child on the blanket and hold one of the stuffed animals. Show your child how to give the toy a big, gentle hug. Say, 'Look, I'm hugging Bear! Can you hug Bear too?'

  2. 2

Now let's practice with you! Hold your arms out and say, 'your child, can you give me a hug?' See if your child leans in or wraps they arms around you.

  3. 3

Let's include another toy. Hold up a second stuffed animal and say, 'Oh no, Bunny looks lonely. Can you give Bunny a hug to make they feel better?'

  4. 4

Time for a group hug! Gather the toys and say, 'Let's all hug together! Me, you, Bear, and Bunny—big group love!' See how your child joins in.
