How it works

  1. 1

Let's start with the toys. Hold up one toy, like the stuffed animal, and say, 'your child, look! Do you want the bear?' Wait and see if they points to it.

  2. 2

Now let's try with snacks. Hold up a snack container and ask, 'your child, are you hungry? Point to the crackers if you want some.'

  3. 3

Let's make it a little trickier. Put two items side by side—like the ball and the car. Ask, 'your child, which one should we play with? Point to your choice.'

  4. 4

Now let's try pointing to ask for help. Put a favorite toy just out of reach and say, 'your child, oh no! The bear is far away. Can you point to it if you need help?'
