Turn-taking vocal games

Proto-conversation with a clear game structure — parent makes a sound, waits, baby responds, parent acknowledges, repeats. Agent coaches the parent on the pause. Observations track the baby's growing sense of conversational turn-taking.

What you'll need

Face baby within easy eye range. Anywhere calm.

How it works

  1. 1~8s

You start. Make a clear, warm sound — 'da-da-da' or 'boo-boo' or a little song phrase. Then STOP. Really stop. Look at them with a question on your face.

  2. 2~10s

Now wait. Longer than feels comfortable. Up to ten seconds. See what they does.

  3. 3~10s

When they responds, smile and say back what they said — exactly, or as close as you can. Then pause again, inviting the next turn.

    Watch for: parent_closes_loop_and_reopens_turn
