Silly sounds conversation

Extended serve-and-return using babbling, raspberries, coos, and silly vocalizations. Agent coaches the parent to match baby's pitch, rhythm, and playfulness. Observations track babbling expansion and genuine turn-taking across more rounds than earlier 0-6mo conversations.

What you'll need

Face baby close up, their eyes at yours. Somewhere relaxed where you don't mind being loud-ish.

How it works

  1. 1~15s

Don't start the sounds. Wait for them to make one first. Watch their face.

    Watch for: parent_holds_space_for_baby_initiation

  2. 2~10s

When they makes a sound, copy it exactly. Same pitch, same length. If they says 'ba ba,' you say 'ba ba.'

  3. 3~20s

Now, after a few exact matches, add something new. A small variation. If they's saying 'ba ba,' you try 'ba ba BOO!' See what happens.

    Watch for: baby_plays_with_novelty_in_exchange

  4. 4

How many back-and-forths did you manage? Anything over three is gold at this age.
