Singing together

Parent and toddler sing familiar songs with actions. By this age many children can fill in the missing word if the parent pauses. Agent coaches the parent to slow down and leave space. Observations track the child's vocal and gestural participation.

What you'll need

Anywhere your child feels free to move. Standing, sitting, wandering — all fine.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start the song with the full words and actions. 'The wheels on the bus go round and round.' Big gestures. Invite them in with your body as much as your voice.

  2. 2~8s

Now sing the song again but pause before the last word of the line. 'The wheels on the bus go round and ____.' Raise your eyebrows. Wait.

    Watch for: child_completes_rhythmic_gap_in_song

  3. 3~15s

Sing it through one last time, fast or silly. Tickle at the end. Big shared laugh to close it.
