Hide and find a favourite object

Parent hides a favourite object of the child's in easy places and invites the child to find it. Age-appropriate object permanence and joint problem-solving. Agent coaches the parent to scaffold rather than reveal, with visible delight at discovery.

What you'll need

Pick a toy they loves. Sit together in a room with a few simple hiding places (under a cushion, behind a pillow, inside a half-open drawer).

How it works

  1. 1~10s

Show them the toy. Then, slowly, hide it somewhere they can clearly see. Under a cushion. Behind a pillow. Make it obvious.

  2. 2~20s

Now, with anticipation: 'Where did teddy go? Can you find teddy?' Wait. Let them crawl, walk, or point.

  3. 3

When they finds it, cheer. Big delight. Then offer to play again — you'll hide, they finds. Or, if they wants, let them hide it and you find.
