Co-construction play

Parent and toddler build something together with blocks, cushions, stacking toys, or household items. Agent coaches the parent to follow the child's lead and add rather than correct. Observations track turn-taking, shared focus, and tolerance-of-demolition (the child's and the parent's).

What you'll need

A flat surface with building materials. Floor is perfect. Sit opposite or beside them.

How it works

  1. 1~60s

Don't start. Wait for them to place the first piece. Then, after they has, you add one — matching their choice. If they stacked a block, you stack one near it.

    Watch for: dyad_alternates_building_turns

  2. 2~60s

When you place a piece, don't correct their placement. If their tower is going sideways, that's fine. Add in ways that support their design, not yours.

    Watch for: parent_supports_child_design_without_correcting

  3. 3~15s

When it falls — or when they knocks it down — match their reaction. If they laughs, laugh with them. If they gets frustrated, say 'oh no!' and offer to rebuild together.

    Watch for: parent_matches_childs_affect_at_collapse
